Biographical note
 

Jacob Shamir is senior lecturer in the department of Communication and Journalism and senior research fellow, the Harry S. Truman Institute for the Advancement of Peace, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He teaches courses and seminars in communication and public opinion, public opinion in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, commercial and political branding, and quantitative research methods. Jacob Shamir spent the academic year of 2005-2006 as a senior fellow at the United States Institute of Peace.  Since July 2000 he directs together with Dr. Khalil Shikaki, from the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research the Joint Israeli-Palestinian Poll, (JIPP), a unique survey research project funded by the Adenauer and Ford Foundations. His research interests include public opinion, political communication, media and conflict resolution. His research has been published in international journals such as Communication Research, Journal of Peace Research, Political Communication, Political Psychology, Public Opinion Quarterly. His book, The Anatomy of Public Opinion was published by the University of Michigan Press in 2000, and his monograph Public Opinion in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict from Geneva to Disengagement, Kadima and Hamas was published in the Peaceworks series of the US Institute of Peace in 2007. His most recent book based on his joint Israeli-Palestinian research project and titled Palestinian and Israeli Public Opinion: The Public Imperative in the Second Intifada, is forthcoming with Indiana University Press in 2009.
